- A Firewall is better than a home Router.
While a router does some basic blocking of incoming connections to the network, a firewall would be a better choice as they have more advanced security features built into them, such as virus scanning and web filtering.
- Do not use a computer used for purely personal purposes, or that others in your household use.
The machine should be cleaned thoroughly, preferably by an IT professional before applying for work purposes, and have a set of security software installed to it.
- A commercial Antivirus Program.
There are a number of antivirus products on the market. Windows has its own built-in antivirus program named Windows Defender, which is generally comparable to other major antivirus programs.
